New Blog

This is a brand new website which will serve as a place I will share experiences that have helped me along my journey.  One of those is reiki, pronounced ray-key, which is a combination of 2 Japanese word meaning universal life energy.  A reiki session is typically performed on a person lying on a massage table or sitting in a chair.  The person is fully clothed except for shoes.  The practitioner serves as a channel to deliver the energy to the client by placing their hands on them.

A reiki session typically lasts an hour and may include sound therapies such as tuning fork, singing bowl or specially tuned meditative music.  Aromatherapy is often incorporated into a session.  You may feel tingling, coldness or warmness where the practitioner is touching you.  Some people even experience a phenomenon known as phantom hands, which is the sensation that the practitioner is touching a different part of your body than they actually are.  For example, you could open your eyes and see their hands on your stomach, but it feels as if they are touching your feet.

My experience with reiki has been one that has changed my life entirely.   I dealt with severe depression for more than 20 years and after 6 months of regularly receiving reiki, it was suddenly no longer a part of my life.  I woke up the morning after a very intense reiki session and my mind was clear and calm and it was apparent to me that I would not have to experience the dark void ever again.  It is now 7 months later and I am still confident that depression is no longer a part of my own experience.  I had tried different medications, talk therapy, group therapy, exercise (nearly impossible to motivate myself to do when it was severe), diet and supplements and nothing ever stuck.  Many of those provided temporary relief, but eventually the depression would break through and before I knew it months would have passed.  It definitely was not a pleasant experience and led to isolation from people and the loss of 2 marriages.  Yet I am grateful that I had that experience as I am now able to help others who may be dealing with a disease that seems to be an invincible foe.

I will write a lot about reiki and other healing modalities here.  I will also share powerful quotes and advice that I received that has helped me.  Topics that interest me are nutrition, self-care, philosophy, exercise, aromatherapy, organization, motivation, laughter, art, reading and writing, and much, much more, but this should give you an idea of what to expect from me on this site.

I look forward to assisting you in your own healing process.

Namaste,

Ryan
